Most of us already know the detrimental impacts of climate change. Some impacts include but are not limited to:

  • Forest fires

  • Drought

  • Disease

  • Floods

  • More severe & frequent storms

Another problem that we face is the drastic changing of seasons. Farmers have watched this happen firsthand with the changing of harvesting and growing seasons. In recent years, the spring frost has (on average) been arriving earlier and the fall frost (on average) later. This is creating a much longer and hotter summer.

Most individuals are unaware of the impact this will have on fashion. People will begin to demand larger summer wardrobes and less transitional items. Fall fashion is very important to the fashion industry. Fashion businesses rely on the money coming in from fall shoppers.

Back to school shopping is one of the main shopping periods for families with young children. I remember going back to school shopping with my mom every year in the early years of my education. With the increase of the summer season, shopping for clothing like jean jackets, sweater vests and other fall clothing items will not be as popular.

Spring fashion is also in jeopardy. With warming summer temperatures, spring fashion could become obsolete. The seasons are starting to change drastically. It seems one day I wake up and it’s already winter after having days of 75℉ + for the past week.

This is not the only way that climate change is impacting fashion. According the the Business of Fashion, extreme weather events could cause $65 billion worth of appeal exports to be lost or destroyed by 2030.
