It requires 1,800 gallons to make a single pair of jeans, that is what 1 person would consume in 5 days. Recycled denim is always the best option for when you are in the market for new jeans, but you need to know how to take care of this material.

Your jeans fade with each wash: When denim is died, the color only adheres to the surface of the fabric. This caused your jean to fade overtime especially with excess washing.
Washing your jeans frequently can cause them to rip easier and pill faster: Pilling happens to a lot of woven fabrics, this is those fuzzy balls on the surface of your clothing. It is caused by the fibers ripping appart from the friction against one another.
It takes 20-25 gallons of water for the average laundry machine to run a full cycle: Doing laundry creates a lot of water waste, that is why doing less is always a better option.
Spot cleaning is more efficient: You can spot clean your jeans with a small amount of detergent and water. For deeper stains try baking soda and water on the stain.
Each cycle breaks down the cotton fibers: When denim is washed, the chemicals break down the fabric overtime. Your jeans can also lose their shape and shrink with frequent washing.
Dark denim can easily bleed onto other fabrics, especially on the first wash: When washing jeans, the dye can rub off onto other garments in the cycle causing the color of that item to change. This is why it is so important to separate your laundry.

It is best to wash your jeans every 5-6 weeks [or when they start to smell..] I also often spot clean in between washes; to get stains out I use baking soda & water, it works like a charm ! When spot cleaning for little things like dirt you can use a small amount of detergent & water and blot with your finders or use a soft brush.
Avoiding the dryer with denim is always best as well. It can lead to changes in the fit of the jeans and damages to the fabric. You can instead air dry your jeans by laying them flat or on a hanger. It is best to dry them in an area with little to no direct sunlight, as it could cause the denim to fade.
